As far as DD-Wrt goes it is much better than any stock f/w out there, it just comes back to lousy drivers and the chip set used . because there doesn't seem to be half as many issuse with other routers with different chip sets used.

Some OEMs are adding auto-update features to their routers these days, as I'm sure DD-WRT probably is also. I think the real difference that needs to be looked at is longevity of support for updates.
